Alright, I know I was doing really well, posting every day, even with some pictures. But then nothing for day 4 or 5! I apologize. It’s amazing how hard it can be to make time on a vacation where you really have no plans or commitments. Ha!
So, where I left off we were in Nakusp for the night. The next morning (Saturday), we wandered around Nakusp a little bit. Had breakfast in The Middle Earth Cafe (which was AWESOME) and then wandered down to the little farmer’s market, then along the beach for a while. Sadly, eventually, we had to leave town.
We went South from Nakusp, and took the Needles Ferry. This ferry was tiny (but not as tiny as the Shaftsbury Ferry I took a couple weeks ago near Fairview) and has 3 ropes stretched across the river, and pullies on the Ferry, and a giant winch, just pulling the thing back and forth across. It was only a short ride, but nice to get out in the wind, on the water (the temperature was between about 30 and 35 degrees C while we were there).
Brian’s dad lives in Vernon, so that’s where we stopped and stayed Saturday night. The 3 of us went out for dinner at The Italian Kitchen Company, and it was reeeally delicious. Enough so that I brought my leftovers all the way home to Calgary. Ha!
We left Vernon early Sunday morning, and drove straight back to Calgary, stopping only for a quick lunch in Golden on the way.
Got back to Calgary around 3pm, showered, napped briefly, put some laundry in, and then went out to my dad’s 62nd birthday party.
All-in-all, an awesome little 5-day-escape. I love the area, and can’t wait to go back.
Oh, and PS… Brian and I are still shopping for a Westfalia. We are looking for something from about ’86 – ’91. We looked at one last night that looks awesome. The body (interior and exterior) are in awesome shape, it’s got all sorts of great added bits – power windows and locks and little furnace. We’re leaning towards buying it, but want to look at some others before taking the plunge. Shouldn’t buy the first one you look at, right? But what if it’s awesomely perfect?
PPS – We leave on another little excursion tomorrow sometime. This weekend we’re headed to Saskatchewan for some ghost town hunting. As per usual, we’ll do our best to post some updates, and our progress map. And pictures.

Love the blog you got going on here, sounds like you had a fun trip, can’t wait to see your pics! Good luck Westy shopping, so much fun :~)
