We finally got out of town last night around rush hour. It would have been sooner, but we had some last minute stops – like buying $600 worth of booze for the wedding.
We got to Golden around 8:30, and met up with my bridesmaid Sabrina at Timmy’s. We decided to try to find one of the campsites in our ‘Camp Free in BC’ book. The only snag we hit was one measly closed off road, but we found a way around it and found ourselves a beautiful, perfect little site right next to Waitabit Creek. We cooked up some veggies and rice for dinner, then later made some popcorn over the campfire (Jiffy Pop – Which went very well, despite our refusal to follow the very specific package instructions saying not to do it over fire).
It rained off and on, but we have the benefit of a roof to hide under when we need it. The temperature stayed pleasantly warm the whole time though. Really our only complaint would be the mosquitos. They dive-bombed us all night, and our van is now a little makeshift mosquito morgue.
After coffee and our usual blueberry pancakes for breakfast this morning, we left our lovely little campsite, and headed back to the highway.
When we hit the brakes to wait for an opening in traffic, some of our stuff shifted and slid forward in the back of the van – something punctured one of the many cans of beer, and sprayed a frothy mist all over everything.
My first thought was, “Thank goodness my wedding dress is in Sabrina’s car!!!”. My second thought is that we now smell like a bottle depot. I jumped in the back and wiped down everything that I could, but we’ll need to go back over it all with soap and water when we get a chance.
That is our first bit of adventure to report to you all on this, our Wedding Voyage 2011. The only casualty was a can of Keith’s Amber Ale, and that’s not so bad. Stay tuned – we’ll get to Coldstream sometime today, and then we can get started on our last bits of wedding prep. We are sooo excited! We’ll see most of you out there in the next few days!!!
