This is Ziggy.  She is our beloved 1985 VW West­falia.  She is also known as a “Vanaru”, because she’s a Vanagon with a Sub­aru engine.  She joined our fam­ily in August 2009 — and will cer­tainly be a part of many of our adven­tures in the years to come.  She sports two dou­ble beds, a sink, a stove, and a fridge.  And, of course, some seri­ous char­ac­ter on top of it all.

  We got mar­ried on July 2 2011 in Cold­stream, BC.  The wed­ding was in Kathy’s & Dave’s beau­ti­ful back­yard, and it was attended by 65 of our favorite peo­ple in the world.  After­wards, we spent 2 nights at the very lux­u­ri­ous Sparkling Hill Resort near Ver­non, and then spent a week camp­ing and hot-springing our way back home.

In early Jan­u­ary 2011, we had a fam­ily gath­er­ing at Brandi’s Aunt & Uncle’s new cabin in Cole­man. We had a won­der­ful warm cozy week­end there, full of games and good food and cute dogs and plaid flannel.

 Brian grouped his pho­tos into a 2010 Christ­mas Sea­son, which starts in White Rock and Van­cou­ver BC.  Cole­man, AB in early Jan­u­ary, and then out to Kananaskis in mid-January.  It was a long and fun Hol­i­day sea­son for sure!  My pho­tos from Cole­man Christ­mas appear above.

Long Week­end Camp­ing near Jasper

 For the Sep­tem­ber long week­end, we went camp­ing to the North.  We jumped in Ziggy and wan­dered up to The Colum­bia Ice Fields and Jasper, and even checked out Miette Hot Springs.  It was a chilly week­end, but huge on the adven­ture scale!

 On the August long week­end and Brian’s 35th birth­day, we hopped in Ziggy and hit the road.  We headed out west to Radium, then south down to Sur­vey­ors lake and back again.

 In July 2010, we took a lit­tle camp­ing trip with our friends Gid­gette & Mirth, their 2 dogs Pika & Maya, and their van Wolfie.  We hiked Plateau Moun­tain, and got stuck in a Hail Storm on the way home on Hwy 22!

 In June 2010, we attended a wed­ding in Rex­ton, New Brunswick – and decided to add a road­trip for a cou­ple weeks – We checked out New Brunswick, PEI, and Nova Scotia.

Banff Overnight

 For the May long week­end, Brandi was get­ting over a wicked cold…  So we weren’t able to get out for the long week­end adven­ture we had wanted to.  Instead we just drove out for din­ner at our favorite Banff restau­rant (Nour­ish), and camped over just the one night and came home again.

 In Feb­ru­ary 2010, we went to Jamaica for a Wed­ding.  We played in the Caribbean, built sand­cas­tles, climbed up water­falls, and even watched the sun­set and the full moon rise from the deck of a cata­ma­ran named “Cool Cool Runnings”.

 These are the pho­tos from our trip to Burn­ing­man in 2009.  This is an annual art fes­ti­val which takes place in the Nevada desert.  This was Brian’s sec­ond burn, and Brandi’s fourth.  The theme was ‘Evo­lu­tion’, and we camped with a bunch of crazy Mon­treal­ers as Mid­night Pou­tine.  As well, this was our first trip in Ziggy.

 Brian had to spend a week in Toronto for work and Brandi came along because she’d never been there before.  We were able to sur­prise Sab­rina on her birth­day, and had din­ner with Josh & Mel.  It thun­der stormed for most of the time we were there, but it was so warm and humid, Brandi kinda loved it.

 We attended a Ghost Town Con­fer­ence in South­west­ern Saskatchewan.  We never went fur­ther north than Moose­jaw, or fur­ther east than Regina.  Our friends Ian & Susan joined us for this one.

 These pho­tos are from a road trip we took in the West Koote­nays.  We drove through San­don, Nakusp, Nel­son, Castle­gar, even stopped in Ver­non (though not all in that order).  We even found St. Leon hot springs.

 This is Cinque Terre, in Italy. From here we went North through Switzer­land, and then back into Ger­many…  But unfor­tu­nately we haven’t sorted through those pho­tos yet.  Per­haps some day!!!

 In Sep­tem­ber 2008, we bought the cheap­est plane tick­ets to Europe, which took us to Frank­furt.  From there, we hopped a train south­east, to Rothen­burg, Nurem­burg, and Munich before head­ing east into Austria.
