Random Oktoberfest

Some ran­dom octo­ber­fest shots off the iphone. Spend­ing time on the train allows us the oppor­tu­nity to show off some ran­dom shots we have taken along the way. This is from Munich at oktoberfest.

So, last night we attended Okto­ber­fest. Hon­estly, it was a lot like the Cal­gary Stam­pede to me — but a lot more fun. Maybe it’s a tourist thing.

There are fair grounds — rides, games, cheap sou­venirs and greasy food. Instead of cow­boy hats and boots though, women were dressed in bar­maid out­fits, and the men were dressed in Leder­ho­sen. And it lasts more than two weeks!

The beer steins you see above (which of course are the star of the fes­ti­val) are a LITRE in vol­ume. No, that’s not a typo. The look on my face in

Leaving Rothenburg

We are now on the train to Nurn­burg. It was tough leav­ing Rothen­burg, I think we’ll always remem­ber it! Last night a thick fog rolled in, which only added to the ancient charm. Yes­ter­day we toured a museum which was orig­i­nally a monastery in the thir­teenth cen­tury. We also saw Marie Antoinette’s hunt­ing rifle and sword, and a rifle given to Napoleon by his brother.

Our post from Lon­don seems not to have gone through, but we’ll try to fix that when we can…

We are plan­ning to stop for a few hours in Nurn­burg, to see the Nazi Doc­u­men­ta­tion Centre,
